April Ross

April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to win medals at many Olympics. Alix klineman, who is taking part for the very first time at the Tokyo Olympics, will try to earn her third Olympic medal. Ross is determined to earn more than her first Olympic medal. This may be the last time she has the chance at age 39. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. If we play our best or even if we perform well, I think we can get that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. That's why I'm taking the chance as well. Ross was born on the 22nd of October, 1982. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and her sister. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Along with playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. But she clearly was superior to the rest in the latter sport. Based on her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside hitting volleyball player throughout her time in high school. Her efforts were recognized in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Players of the Year. Additionally, in 2000, she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross is playing with Klineman since 2017, but Ross's beach game was established well before that. It's true that she has been able to win multiple tournaments, including one with a legendary volleyball player. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships in 2009. The duo would go into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, beating them to it. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement after she had retired. The pair went on to earn bronze in beach volleyball in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a college athlete at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She played during high school, and even before hitting the beach as a professional. Her experience at USC was awe-inspiring. She was an All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of Year in 2000 as a young freshman. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans reach into the Final Four. In her sophomore season she was devastated by a personal tragedy, but earned the distinction of being an All-American. Over her final two years within the team, she guided the Trojans towards the top of the mountain winning three consecutive championships at the national level. The individual accomplishments of her have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the nation's best female collegiate player. Ross was an international relations student at USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie never got to see Ross's daughter reach the top levels of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001, when Ross was still an USC sophomore. The cancer was diagnosed as breast. This meant that Ross is still close to her deceased parent. Margie remains a constant source of inspiration for her, both at and off the beaches.
